Cruise ship

Yesterday the Port Elizabeth harbour played host to the Crystal Serenity. It isn't often that we get cruise ships this size into the city, so it was quite an unusual site to see her lying next to the car terminal. Unfortunately the PE Harbour doesn't have a cruise ship terminal which means that we only get a couple of cruise ships coming in every year. The sad part is that it seems that the port authority isn't very interested in developing a cruise ship terminal cause they feel they won't make money from it.

  1. I would think that cruise ships would bring in more business. This is a beautiful picture.

  2. Ah - we saw it in Cape Town on Tues night and whole day on Wednesday. We tried to get close to take a photo but it was not accessible. Apparently it was there as a test run for the World Cup. It's berth was being tested for accessibility for passengers etc. We thought it was in a crazy place as we couldn't get anywhere near it. That's why we went up to Signal Hill - to try and get a photo ... but it had already left !!!! Gone to PE obviously !!

  3. Just to add - we went to Signal Hill Thursday morning before leaving for airport and we hadn't been near harbour to see if it was there or not - we just presumed it was still there. She must have sailed out/sneeked out in the night!!

  4. Wow, that's huge. Too bad you don't see more of this potential income to the community.

  5. I knew I forgot something on Friday evening. I heard that she would sail at 6pm. I only remembered that I wanted to take some photos of this beautiful ship before she sailed when I saw your post today. Oh well at least one of us took the pictures.
