Cape Recife in the distance

The western point of Algoa Bay is called Cape Recife and it is surrounded by the Cape Recife Nature Reserve.  The beach on the Algoa Bay side of the point is the kind of beach that is close enough to the city to be accessible, but far enough for a person to just get away from it all.  The view from this spot takes in both (on the right) the Cape Recife Lighthouse built in 1851, and one of the old shipping beacons on the left.

  1. A beautiful postcard scene just perfect for the August Theme day! Wish I were there...only in warm weather.

  2. I can never pass a lighthouse without taking a photo!

I like the whitecaps on the waves.

  3. The white-caps appear choppy to me. As those there is an onshore wind building up. The lighthouse and beacon are lovely ways to define your horizon.
