End of the line

It looks like the old narrow gauge line come to the end of its life, as part of our transport infrastructure. At one time this line transported much of the fruit that was grown in the Langkloof to Port Elizabeth. Coaches can be seen decaying at many of the sidings along the line. These were photographed at the Greenbushes siding.

  1. Great photos. I suppose this old train deserves its retirement!

  3. What has happened to the SA rail infrastructure is one of the saddest things I've seen. It is an efficient and economical way of transporting both good and people - and the infrastructure was there! Miles and miles of track that now seem to be fallign into disuse. In Feb we drove from PE to Cape Town and back, seeing miles and miles of track alongside or near the N2... but in 16+ hours of driving we did not see a single train.

    Lovely pictures :)
