Port Elizabeth's beautiful colonial city hall was built between 1858 and 1862. The clock tower was added to the building in 1883. Unfortunately the building was just about destroyed by fire in 1977 and many paintings of early Port Elizabeth as well as the only original portrait of Lady Elizabeth Donkin was lost. The building was restored and re-opened in 1981.
Beautiful architecture! Great shot!
ReplyDeleteNice building. We have to protect our heritage and this is one of them.
ReplyDeleteI like your new masthead!
ReplyDeleteI love looking at photos like this one of the clock tower. I like to think I am looking at pictures of things that my mother lived amongst when she lived in South Africa.
Beautiful!
It is a beautiful building. Lets hope the ones around it get restored in the same manner (always hoping).
