In order to stop the displaced members of the congregation returning to worship there, after the forced removal of the South End residents, the apartheid government demolished the church. Though there are a lot of townhouse developments around the St Peters, the remains of the church will be retained as a testimony to past injustices.

ReplyDeleteClarice.... thanks for the comment, I agree about enjoying an explanation of photos I am seeing. being a naturally curious person, I want to know the background, which is why we always try to provide it on our blogs.
Generally, there is a surprising amount of racial harmony here, but there are still members of all races who seem to be unable to let go of the past and just see each other as fellow human beings. I guess that applies anywhere in the world to a degree, but with the amount of painful history here, the level of goodwill is inspiring and encouraging.
