Ever since being awarded the honour of hosting the 2010 Soccer World Cup, South Africa has been gripped by soccer fever. New stadia are being constructed around the country, many attracting a lot of controversy with strikes, deadlines not being met, and budgets which keep multiplying beyond original estimates at a terrifying rate.
Last weekend we went to check out how things are going with the Port Elizabeth Stadium. mmmmmm, well, a way to go yet! Watch this space!
I think it was the same in Athens for the Olympics. You have such wonderful location I am sure it will be a success.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be an exciting time! Always does get completed on time; looking forward to more photos.
ReplyDeleteHope they finish it in time!
ReplyDeleteWhy say mmmmm, well, a way to go yet. It sounds like a negative comment. Why not say: Wow, things are coming along?
ReplyDeleteFirefly: because the purpose of the city daily blogs is to give a personal view of the city through the eyes of someone living there, and not someone who is paid to promote it, there are bound to be both negative and positive remarks, in order to show a true and balanced perspective. While we happen to love the city, and are therefore largely positive, there will be times when the severe crime, or other negative issues are mentioned, and we reserve the right to be honest and express our personal reaction to such things. In this case, the mmmmmmm was not intended as a "negative comment" but rather as a "well, not enough to see yet, lets come back later". Trust me, I am pretty blunt, when I make a negative comment, you will know it, because it will not be that subtle! Sue.
