Amsterdamhoek

On the Eastern outskirts of town lies the Swartkops River. At the point where it flows into the sea, it is crossed by the N2 freeway which leads to all the main centres to the East and North of us. And in the intersection of freeway and river, along the steep East bank, is the little village of Amsterdamhoek. Some pretty impressive homes cling to the riverbank here, each with its own jetty. In the strange light last Thursday, as the sun struggled to make an impression through the clouds, the village took on a mystical look. (The west bank is altogether less appealing, more of that tomorrow!)
