Yesterday it was Art Deco, today Art Nouveau.... this is one of the old original buildings in Main Street, where the city first developed. It is now called Govan Mbeki Avenue, after our current President's father. There are still a few of these gems, surrounded by some rather nasty high rises built after the middle of last Century. (It still feels weird to think of the years I was born and growing up as 'the middle of LAST Century', makes one feel positively geriatric!
Positively geriatric. LOL. But that's true. I mean, the weirdness of it. That top balcony and the tiny turrets, how delightful.
ReplyDeleteRe: East Boston, it is changing so fast... It's just amazing and a bit scary. Won't remain a working class neighborhood for long.
(You are very welcome, btw. I'm glad I was able to help.)
What a gem! Too bad Denton can't restore his buildings to resemble something like this.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed these last two shots...and of course been outraged by the Irish Landlord.
ReplyDeleteOne thing you get in Port E is liberal doses of sunlight. That's something we are missing in England right now.
I could bore you all into a coma with my photos of old buildings, because I adore them, and have a bulging archive of them, so I have to keep reminding myself to vary it a bit!........mmmmm maybe it's time for more wildlife and watersports!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful yet huge building.
