Eastern Province Rugby Stadium

The Eastern Province Rugby Stadium is also better know by its old name of Boet Erasmus Stadium. The stadium is home to the Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) and the provincial team is know as The Mighty Elephants and seats about 35000 people. In the picture you can see the main stand while the open stand only consist of cement steps and doesn't have and seats. Its far from a modern stadium, but there is a reason (except for the EPSU's financial problems) for the stadium not getting any major renovations. The EPRU will eventually (probably after the 2010 FIFA World Cup) move to the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium which will become home the Mighty Elephants. The stadium has in the mean time been identified as one of the possible sites for the development of an International Convention Centre.

  1. Speaking of new stadiums, how do you feel about all of the money being spent on the World Cup Venues?

  2. MyVintageCameras: Quite frankly, it's a disgrace - people lining in utmost poverty and starving whilst billions are spent on 6 weeks of marketing the country.

  3. Even though this isn't the forum to discuss this I have to say this. In some cities like Durban and Cape Town they have existing world class stadia so building new ones is a waste of money to me, but here in Port Elizabeth we don't have a world class soccer / rugby stadium so building a new one is actually a great addition and asset to the city.

  5. The Eastern Province Stadium is truly capable of hosting major sporting events. Building it is a good way to encourage involvement in sports. Similarly, Glendale parks and recreations was built to pay homage to the local Rugby players. It has already hosted a couple of international tournaments for some years now. Glendale parks and recreation is a good venue for tourists since they can enjoy other amenities like the fitness center, Park Pavilion and a Fieldhouse Deck and park. I hope to visit again this year for another sports event.
